1. About this policy
Alignr (Alexander Huntly King trading as Alignr, ABN 87 812 531 725) ("Alignr", "we", "us", "our") is a Melbourne-based recruitment business. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal information openly and transparently in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use and disclose it, how we keep it secure, and how you can access, correct or complain about how we handle it. It applies to information we collect through our website (alignr.com.au), by email, over the phone, in person, and through third-party platforms we use to run our business.
2. What personal information we collect
The kinds of personal information we collect depend on your relationship with us.
If you are a candidate or job seeker, we may collect: your name, contact details (email, phone, address), résumé/CV, work history, qualifications, skills, references and referee details, salary expectations, right-to-work and visa status, and any other information you provide to us or that we obtain during the recruitment process.
If you are a client or prospective client (an employer), we may collect: your name, business contact details, role and organisation, and information about the roles you are recruiting for.
If you are a website visitor, we may collect: your IP address, browser and device information, pages viewed, and interactions with our site, collected through cookies and analytics and advertising tools (see section 8).
Sensitive information. Some recruitment activities may involve sensitive information — for example, criminal history or background checks, or health information relevant to a role's requirements. We only collect sensitive information where it is reasonably necessary for our functions and, in most cases, with your consent, as required by the APPs.
3. How we collect personal information
We collect personal information:
- directly from you — when you apply for a role, submit your details through our website, email or call us, or meet with us;
- from third parties — such as job boards, LinkedIn, referees you nominate, and background-check providers; and
- automatically — through cookies and analytics tools when you use our website.
Where it is reasonable and practicable, we collect personal information directly from you. If we collect it from a third party, we take reasonable steps to ensure you are aware of the collection.
4. Why we collect, hold, use and disclose personal information
We use personal information to:
- provide recruitment and placement services, including matching candidates to roles;
- assess candidate suitability, conduct interviews and reference or background checks;
- communicate with candidates and clients about opportunities and engagements;
- manage our relationship with clients and candidates;
- operate, maintain and improve our website; and
- meet our legal and regulatory obligations.
We may disclose personal information to:
- prospective employers — we disclose candidate information (such as your CV and profile) to our client employers as part of the recruitment process, generally with your consent;
- referees — to verify information you have provided;
- third-party service providers — such as background-check providers, IT and cloud hosting providers, and CRM/applicant-tracking platforms that help us run our business; and
- others — where required or authorised by law.
We do not sell your personal information.
5. Direct marketing
We may send you information about relevant roles, services or updates. You can opt out of marketing communications at any time by using the unsubscribe link in our emails or by contacting us at alex@alignr.com.au. We will action opt-out requests promptly.
6. Data security
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference and loss, and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. These steps include access controls, secure cloud storage, staff confidentiality obligations, and secure disposal of information we no longer need. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and to respond appropriately to any data security incident.
7. How long we keep your information
We keep personal information only for as long as it is needed for the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law. When it is no longer required, we take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify it.
8. Cookies, analytics and advertising
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to help it function, to understand how visitors use the site, and to support our advertising.
We use Google Analytics, Google Ads, Meta Pixel and LinkedIn Ads. These tools may collect information about your device and browsing activity and may set cookies. Some of these providers are located overseas (see section 10) and may use the information in accordance with their own privacy policies.
You can manage or disable cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect how the website works.
9. Accessing and correcting your information
You have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete or misleading. To make a request, contact us using the details in section 11. We will respond within a reasonable period. In limited circumstances we may decline a request, in which case we will explain why in writing.
10. Overseas disclosure
Some of the third-party service providers we use (for example, cloud hosting, CRM/applicant-tracking, analytics and advertising platforms) may store or process personal information outside Australia. Where we disclose personal information overseas, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is handled consistently with the APPs.
